this album was created by myself and risky patterns the first, and only, time we've met in person. it was created over the span of a week long tour across the state of Texas in 2020, amidst early worries related to COVID-19, on land that belonged to our ancestors. never before have I written something that felt so out of body. I was constantly falling asleep & seeing visions of ancestors that I'd met before, telling me where/how to move, etc. i remember falling asleep on a tile floor at 3 PM in the middle of making a beat. i've never felt ancestral guidance before & this is the reason why you see such nods to nehemiah's and my joint ancestry as the missions, peyote, prickly pears, sotol, and, if you look closely, the seal for the state of Coahuila. these are marks of coahuiltecans. our forefathers who were tortured, enslaved, and raped by europeans. I believe this project was created greatly in part by them, & I sincerely hope you can feel a fraction of the connection that i felt during the creation process.
